Filmography: Professional

June 2009 - October 2009

Lighting Lead Rhythm & Hues, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel"

I work directly with the Lighting Supervisor and a Team Sequence Supervisor to help develop the work flow and address technical needs for my team. I also help my team to deliver assets that will allow the compositing team to final shots per the clients specifications.

August 2008 - May 2009

Lighting/Environment Lead Rhythm & Hues, "Land of the Lost"

I work directly with the Lighting and Digital Supervisors to develop the work flow and pipeline for rendering large set extensions. I was also involved in building many of the lookdev and lighting processes at the beginning of production along with the 2d lighting templates. I lead a team of 4 lighters and about 12 matte painters to complete over 600 set extensions.

October 2007 - July 2008

Lighting TD Rhythm & Hues, "Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"

I work directly with the Lighting and Digital Supervisors to build and maintain the lighting 2d templates necessary for the lighting pipeline. I was also involved in building many of the lookdev and lighting processes at the beginning of production. My responsibilities also include shot lighting some of the more technically challenging shots and helping other artists with trouble shooting there files.

April 2007 - October 2007

Lighting TD Rhythm & Hues, "The Golden Compass"

Lighting characters.  Software testing and development.  Writing Documentation and inhouse software user manual.

I also worked on "Alvin and the Chipmunks" at the tail end of my time on compass, testing and trouble shooting lighting tools.  But the work was very minor and I don't get an official credit.

July 2006 - November 2006

Lighting TD Rhythm & Hues, "Night at the Musuem"

My responsiblities were lighting a CG Trex, lighting Massive crowds of the diorama people and doing the pre-compositing for the shot. It was a lot of fun! I really love the blend of compositing and lighting in the Lighting TD position.

June 2005 - January 2006

Compositor LDS Motion Picture Studio, "Joseph"

My responsibilities were as compositor, rotoscoping, tracking, and creating light effects in Shake. The film is a 4k live action film output back to film at 4k resolution for projection.

Filmography: Student/Independent

Aug 2005 - Present

Producer & Visual Effects Supervisor BYU Productions, "Sheriff"

The title VFX Suprvisor is pretty heavy for someone with my limited (Let me emphasize "LIMITED") experience. But seeing that it began as a student film and grew into an independent film with working professionals from different studios contributing... and I am responsible for all the CG and effects (whether created by me or other members of the crew) and so I didn't know what else to call myself. I oversaw Film shoots to ensure FX integration on a 35mm project transferred to 1080p HD. I am also in charge of the look of the project. I work in conjunction with Director Kelly Loosli to figure out how the effects should look to best suit the story. With my tiny bit of previous experience I am helping lead a team of talented artist and students through the process of creating a short film from conception through all the steps in the process to completion. I have composited, modeled, rigged, textured, lit, match moved, animated... you name it, I help with it on this film. My favorite task has been building the Lighting Pipeline. It has been a challenge extended my skills more into the realm of coding/programing but I love how many doors it unlocks for being creative. I have been having to bridge the gaps between maya, renderman, and shake in an artist friendly render management/lighting pipeline.

January 2005 - April 2006

Student Artist, "Las Pinatas"

I was responsible for grooming the fur used to create the papier-mache on the characters using a proprietary fur rib generator (By Tom Finagan) in Renderman, incorporating a Subdivision fur rig into the Polygon animation rig. (Update) We decided not to use the fur... So my little work there has been phased out for the time being. Early in the project, I was a storyboard artist. My other roles were to create shaders for one of the background buildings, and light some scenes. The Film finally finished, but the only thing of mine that stayed in the project was my Subdivision Rig. The scenes I lit were taken over by other students and I don't feel that the shots reflect my work. Honestly, the finished look wasn't exactly I had expected, but it is still a nice student piece.

Aug 2005 - November 2005

Student Artist, "Noggin"

I was responsible for creating all of the fire, spark and smoke effects for this film using Maya fluids and particle systems as well as compositing in the fire effects.

July 2004 - December 2005

Director of Animation & Producer, Student Film "Der Ostwind"

This was my baby in school. I came on to this film with virtually no CG experienced and walked away with a much better understanding of making cg effects/films. Shortly into my time on the project I was handed the controls and allowed to take the project in my own direction visually. It was a great opportunity to stretch my creative legs and learn a ton. I started out animating the airplanes, which was awesome! I am an aviation nut. From there it was tackling one thing after another, creating effects, compositing, renderman... I had help from some extremely smart students that really made the project awesome. I ended up in the end managing the animation side of the film and helping with a lot of the producing needs. All in all, a very educating experience.

September 2003 - May 2004

Traditional Animator, Student Film "Faux Paw"

"Faux Paw" is the 2005 Student Emmy Award Winner for best Traditional Animation. I was a character animator. I was in charge of several of the shots containing the character cursor, any shot only containing the cats paw, as well as the silhouette shots of the Governor. It was the first film that I worked on at school and it was a very cool experience to be a part of a team to create something that helps children.

Currently:

December 2009 - Present
